no but I actually love this scene a lot <3
thatās like my eight one. Those fuckers are amazingā, they dont have overdose issues?? wow nice wait how did hobi get tummy issues then??
overdose can't happen for vampires, it's more of a blinded by bloodlust where they can't control themselves anymore and go feral but he is very far away from that state
Hoseok stops laughing, fidgeting in his chair rather nervously. His smile stays on his face however, never reaching his eyes and looking like a mask he canāt seem to shake off. slightly scary with description, but its really funny u can pass off everyones questions with this smile, just answer the are u ok question properly and smile, or else u look like hobi right now haha
no but I'm actually so sad for him :( I hate that he thinks he needs to pretend to be happy :( like hobi :( you're allowed to be sad too :(
We have Yoongi, who fought god knows how many battles. Then Jungkook, a high ranking military dude. And Seokjin, who had the nerve to serve in both world wars just for fun. wow jin really said imma fight ww1 & 2 for shits and giggles
i feel like it was an honour thing for him where he was all like "i have a duty as a man" š
āBecause I feel like an imposterā, he confesses, āIām a vampire, that canāt even control minds, has never been faux killed before, has zero fighting experience and whose origin story is being killed by a blowjob. How pathetic can you be?ā ur just simply a vampire, not all have to go through shit to be a vampire, its just they lived that long so the probability of going through shit is higher, u got lucky. its ok ur not a clown. youre a great friend for real
YES THANK YOU !!! i love this agenda!!!

š„ŗšLooking to write a historical smut RP scene. You don't have to know anything about history or the specific events (WW1 Gallipoli/1854 Crimean War), just be able and willing to write as a female character. The basic idea is a soldier, my character getting shelled and knocked unconscious only to be pulled to safety. Here's the part where I may lose you. I'm hoping that you'll play Wonder Woman or some female superhero. However if you prefer not to play a female superhero then we can set the scene further in the past to the Crimean war 1854-1856. Same setup except my character is pulled to safety after being shelled by a Florence Nightingale type nurse.š„ŗš
give a like and anon will get back to you

My favorite thing about writing this fanfiction has to be the research moments.
I love being in the middle of thinking of some medical scene and then asking myself "How long does it take for a broken arm to heal?" Only to realise halfway through googling that in WW1, the general understanding in the medical branch was to get soldiers back into battle as fast as possible (I could write an essay about how this is reflected in the anime/manga with Mori forcing Yosano to use her ability during the Great War).
At the same time, I'm taking a lot of inspiration from the irl authors, and Mori was definitely a bit different. So trying to apply his own view of medicine at the time (which was highly influenced by science and bacteriology) to the Mori in my fanfic is an interesting process. I want to make Mori a bit more empathetic, but also have his medical practice lean into "Men into the battlefield as fast as possible. Broken arm? Well you still have your other. No eye? Well you don't need to see in order to shoot at the other side".
Fun fact is that I'm trying to take creative liberties while sticking to my sources about medicine and surgery at the time, all while having no idea about any of this beyond the first-aid classes I had in college.
I'm so excited to write morešš

Nah not my eras tour costume being called insensitive when Iāve been working on it for a month š I hate it here sometimes.
I was going to do a crown of poppies that I knit for the Great War, but apparently that glorifies WW1, so weāre back to square one

Tell me ur habit thoughts
I have an ask on my main thats been sitting there for a couple years now (sorry midsy i promise its not forgotten š) that i want to work on now because, while i try to keep my habit as close to the source as possible, i did have some plot points in my fic that needed more, and i finally have a sort of set background for him now. Its so hard to tamper with perfection and keep it, so im trying my best š¬š©
Evan is probably my habits 4th or 5th face. He was formed during WW1, but didnt actually stick to the mortal world til after the war ended. His first sighting wouldve been the early to mid 1920s. Im debating how much i wanna chatter about it, cuz i think i wanna do a side fic about his first faces, like i plan on doing with kates background too, but ehh
Gonna slip this under a cut
Habits first face was a rail worker named Rudy. Rudy had a damn solid worker's build and a cheeky sense of humor, and a heart of steel. He was dependable if a bit brash sometimes, and to a degree his personality bled over into Habits. There was a catch though, Rudy had a family and a partner. And while Habit was tempted to just off them all for sake of ease, it would have drawn too much attention, and he was not as strong as he is now. And eventually he got caught by Rudy's girlfriend, an upper class woman named Harietta. I have art of her somewhere, I'll have to reblog with a link.
Harietta was incredibly smart and quick witted, and she found out pretty quickly that something was wrong with her secret lover. She was just never expecting it to be him being possessed by a demon. His normally playful sense of flirting was more sour, more hostile and degrading. Her and Habit did not get along for a while. But she was determined to get him to leave them both alone, and she was persistent. Habit had a loose string of plans to build his influence that she found a way to meddle in, but over time he found her more and more useful. She had connections through her wealthy father and rebellious mother, and she had a brain like a puzzle box that could find the most uncanny solution to any issue. And after a while, he found himself willingly let her coming along, being more protective of her. Needless to say, he stole his host's girlfriend.
He eventually claimed her and they got married for her comfort. The bond he gave her essentially made her immortal, and they lived as working partners and lovers well into the 90s. He kind of corrupted her a bit. He was always malcious and conniving and looking to claw himself higher and higher, wanting to rival the most powerful beings walking the mortal plane. He couldn't have some human girl swaying his ideals. So he twisted her a bit, until she was a little messed up like him. Enough to get her on board with things most people wouldn't be.
The problem with being a demon like him on the mortal plane is vessels. Other demons, like Jack and Jason, have viable appearances that are human enough to work and blend in. Habits is not. His actual form is large and very inhuman, he stands out like a sore thumb. To combat this, he has to take human vessels, an imperfect tactic to hide himself amongst humans. These people he inhabits can still die, he can make them weak or sick with his presence, and if they are of strong enough mind, they can fight back against him. One of the things he tasked Hattie to do is help him find vessels, because as much as he tried not to, he would eventually break and kill those he inhabited.
It was Hattie that found Evan. She was smitten with him immediately, and when Habit inevitably killed his current vessel, she tried to coax and eventually seduce him into their house, where she could summon her husband back into his body. Evan is incredibly strong willed, and it took a lot of work for the both of them to get him to submit enough for Habit to become a dominant existence in his body, but eventually they broke him down enough to make it work. Hattie is very fond of Evan, and when Habit isnt inhabiting him she often clings to him and confides in him what she doesnt with Habit. Evan is actually the one that knows the most about her eventual madness and disappearance.
He's still very much a Habit. Stubborn, crass clever, antagonistic. I did kinda go the more goofy route too of giving him a small group of people that he uses like fodder and foot soldiers. Rabbits if you will (lol), and he mostly uses them when he has too many things to do on his own. Or he uses them as bait, weapons, guards, whatever he needs them to do. They live on their own, and because of the way he brands them, he can call on them when he needs and they'll regroup. Funnily enough, it started as a crack idea but Natalie (Clockwork) ended up being his right hand and second in command, and she has a very interesting dynamic with him because of that. Think tired employee with sadistic boss lol. We'll see all of this in the fic; hes the last antagonist to be introduced and he almost makes himself the main antag. He's a hell of a force to be reckoned with, and he'll change the whole course of the fic when he gets introduced. It'll just be a long while til then.
Ahh. Tryna think of anything else. I'll reblog this if i think of more, its already a lot. Thanks for the ask š

Your views on abortion and drafting is INSANE, men were only getting drafted because there was a shortage of soldiers AND because women are seen as the weaker sex. Who else is able to protect our country if not men??? While I do agree it shouldnāt have gotten to that point, it sadly did and there NEEDS to be a law in place if our country is lacking soldiers. Itās part of the reason weāre still kickingšš it SHOULDNāT be but there is because we NEED it. What we donāt need is the risk of perfectly healthy women dying during childbirth because she didnāt have a choice, women going into psychosis, women literally splitting their vaginas, upon multiple other things which could happen. And donāt try arguing āwell those men being sent to war didnāt have a choice eitheršā well no shit. But once again how else will our country be protected? A draft is a last resort type of thing, and it needs to be there so America doesnāt fall. Abortion rights doesnāt do anything to our country, itās not like all women strive to abort their children. This is coming from someone whoād never abort their baby no matter the circumstances. Unlike someone I could actually look outside my own ideals.
Howdy, um so you know the US uses the draft very quickly to give you idea many that wanted to sign up on there own for WW1 and WW2 where sent draft papers before they had a shot. so idea that drafting is last pick is not really true. its done almost auto war time in the west UK , france CA , USA etc. the us just has not done it since nam because the wars we fought not the same style. btw any boy that today when he turns 18 must sign up to be drafted at anytime the gov wishes or face over 100,000 fine and being added to list of drafting also can see jail time.
to give you idea each year on best numbers for your side 64,000 women die due to not having an abortion. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2709326/ to give you idea just ww2 20 million troops died in same 100 years feminist push for some forms of abortions to be normal and all they are but a hand full of deaths vs the millions of men that dead on battlefield. mind you that 20 mill not count the camps and such just battlefield troops. so the idea that one sex its ok to remove all there rights and send them into a war where millions die but the other group wants tax payers to pay for them to kill there unborn kid yea its insane that women want tax money with out the tax payer getting a say. but ok lets say they get no aid at all. why should a man that without him a kid cant be made not get a say are most laws not lead to a 50/50 split if divorce to brake up of a contract yet 1 side in this contract gets no say at all ? and some want call it a "right" funny how RBG a very liberal women on court even said it not a right its hung on bad law and will come down. why because look at the bill of rights point out where you get the idea its a right please. if you cant then its not a right same with anything else.

I have my algebra final exam tomorrow and I'm so fucking scared of failing it. Like I'm so scared. I'm so not prepared and I don't remember like anything. And the thing is I don't wanna focus so much on preparing for the math exam that I don't prepare for the other one I also have tomorrow. Its literally my two worst ones history and math. Like there is nothing that I remember and I'm so scared of failing. Like I know I know enough to pass but I don't wanna get like below an 80% bc my parents will freak out. And actually I take back what I said about math and history being the worst ones bc biology. Biology sucks. And it was easy to cheat too, aka the only reason I have an A in that class. That's probably the one I'm most scared about failing.
Anyways I'm probably going to stay up all night and make some notes for math. Aka write down every topic we went over and some example problems. And for history I'm just gonna read the wiki on ww1 ig bc what the fuck else am I supposed to do to prepare for it. Like just read the wiki on a couple different wars we went over and some stuff on the great depression. I guess. Idk. Do some random quizizz and flashcards. Bc what else can I do really.
For biology I'm just gonna pray and jump in head first bc AGAIN what else can I do š

Hiya!
I'd say I hope things are well but I saw you recently got injured?? Your friends Megan and tokillamockingbird427 are absolutely correct about your medical practices. Petrol for a wound ššš sir šš½ stopšš½ it! I hope you're doing good now and nice on booking a new tattoo, I wish.
The Wrong Side..... what to say about this piece except BEAUTIFUL! I loved it (sorry if this becomes redundant but I genuinely enjoy your writing for a certain gangster so much!)
The pain both Alfie and reader felt was so profound through this piece. You broke my heart a little when Alfie spat the line:
"I was the one in pain! And you didn't give a fuck."
No! My baby bear man!!! Someone give him a bloody hug!
The shaking of their hands as a remnant of, no doubt, the trauma from the horrors theyāve had to face and commit. That anger not only at themself but at the Kaiser, The King, and the rest of the lot forcing this fight that would have no winners, no real victory, the only spoils would be blood and death. The imagery of stained hands was so powerful and spoke volumes to the very real tragedy of the fighting as well as what was deserved for those who instigated it.
Camden Town being the one place where their hands stopped the shake š„¹. They'd finally made their way home and the fact that it is still able to have that place of solace for them, so much so that the tremors reminiscent from the war are even kept at bay, even if for a short while.
The nervousness of seeing Alfie again.
"I can leave"
š« Stop it emotions, cease yourself so I may get through the whole text!
"Y'know me mum was worried sick about you! She thought you'd fuckin' dropped dead!"
NOO!! MISSUS SOLOMONS as an indirect casualty!! Alfie being absolutely heartbroken, okay, we'll deal with that, but his mum??? No. Nope. Absolutely not, reader needs to immediately rectify that situation because that woman is amazing and deserves better than that. So trot on outta Alfie's office, down Bonnie Street and make that shite right. Because Missus Solomons has my whole ass heart and I will not allow her to remain heartbroken any longer so fuck off and make it up to her.
"Camden ain't like you remember it," he sighed. "But I'll protect you."
Oh man, and after all of that, they still love eachother. Freaking exquisite. Did I mention that? Bloody beautiful. Love the story, love you, have a great rest of your time.
P.S. So sorry for the long rant, here's the gist: I absolutely loved it. Thank you so much! Wicked you're getting a new tattoo. Please do not use petrol for your wound šš½š!
Til next time šš¼!
šanon
hi!
yeah, I've got some less than nice cuts on my arms that were uhm, well a couple of them were quite deep lmfao but just bc @tokillamockingbird427 and Megan nag me about modern medicine doesn't mean I'll stop using trench medicine šš
the tattoo is booked for the 19th, so thankfully, it's not TOO far away and it should be quite fun!! it's another homage to my old dog, like everything is bc we grew up together and we were best friends for going on 15 years. so he meant a lot to me tbh, bc believe or not, but a lot of kids at school didn't often want to be around the schizophrenic kid, whereas Brian (the dog) was happy so long as there was a stick to throw, scraps from the plate, a place on the bed and a nice scratch behind the ears.
I'm so, so glad that you enjoyed The Wrong Side!!! š«¶š»š«¶š»š«¶š»
Alfie and the reader REALLY regretting living to see the end of the war, bc all that's left is just pain and regret for them both.
you COULD potentially say that the reader has shellshock tbh; like, the fact that their hands shake and their response to Alfie losing his temper, both fit the bill for shellshock. so it's a possibility that that is there. but they're still painfully aware that WW1 wasn't a justified war, it wasn't a war that did any good; they're right, the King and the Kaiser and the Tsar and the politicians across Europe (who kicked off the initial conflict) are very much to blame, and their living ancestors today still have that blood on their hands.
Camden is definitely their Safe Space, like, that is where they not ONLY feel at home but also absolutely feel SAFE; they know Camden! they used to love it there! Camden, for the reader, is their oasis; it's their shelter when it's raining.
they're so nervous to see him again, not bc of the fact that they still love him, not bc they fought on the axis side as opposed to the allied side; but bc of the breakup, and bc they KNOW that they hurt Alfie.
Mrs Solomons may have been the one who told Alfie about the German scrap metal business to begin with šššššššššššš but we'll never know (or will we?) so I don't think she's worried about seeing the reader again bc she might have been the reason why the reader came back in the first place ššš
Alfie still holds a lot of anger against the reader, but all the same, he does understand why they had to do it; during WW1, if a British officer was found to be fraternising with a German soldier, it meant trouble for both - even truces in the trenches were punished heavily. so he does understand, but he's still angry. does he love them? yeah! of course he does! but he's still angry, he's still jaded by what happened even if he does understand.
but anyways shfkajfkajfja I'm SO SO glad that you enjoyed it!!!
and don't worry about ranting, I love it when people rant to me about fic š«¶š»š«¶š»š«¶š»š«¶š»š«¶š»

@justrainandcoffee there was so my scenes in this chapter that pulled at my heartstrings, Flor šā¤ļø.
Their goodbye was beautiful yet so heartbreaking. It echoed exactly what I would imagine a soldiers goodbye would be like to his family. Telling his wife he loved her, his daughter to help her mum and his son to look after them now he's the head of the house, urghh š š.
You made such a sad moment feel hopeful and comforting. This is why I always love WW1/WW2 stories, the strength families hade to muster when their men left is something I'll always respect.
"Together as always," Maggie said trying to smile. But a single tear betrayed her. It's comforting to know his best friend will be with him, but Maggie's sadness that she can't be with him "always" is so evident š.
"I promise to be back, sweetheart. To you and to the kids." I'm so in my feels with this story š„ŗ...I hope he does make it back, so many soldiers didn't š.
Although, Maggie said, he was determinated to give his money to the soldiers. Until one of them, gently, told the boy that any soldier could be happy if he kept the coin for himself or bought something nice for his mother. I loved this little part. I found it so incredibly sweet that he wanted to give his money to the soldiers. But the fighting men knew how much his mother was suffering with her husband being at war, and suggested it would make her happier than it would them š...see, still in my feels!
That would be beautiful. I'm planning to buy a new tree and Clara wants to decorate it with ribbons. Do you remember that doll she saw in town? I bought it already." I was gutted for him that he wasn't able to make it back, and I honestly had doubts he'd make it back for Christmas too. But, how lovely is Maggie? She doesn't further rile him up, or take her frustrations out in him that he's not able to visit them. Instead she reminds him of home and their children and gives him something to distract his thoughts with that makes him smile ā¤ļø.
Farrier sip the beer in front of him and looked at his best friend "if something happens to me, promise me you're going to take care of them." When I read this part it made me wonder how many promises were made during the war. That fear must have crept up on every man, and I'm not surprised that he asked his best friend to look after them if the unthinkable happened.
I know very well that you could sell your soul to the devil if that means to go back to them, Farrier!". "The devil nowadays live in Germany, Collins, and don't think he wants my soul." Arghhh!! I loved this line, Flor š! It's so chilling, and perfectly executed at the right time by Farrier!
And there she was, like the woman she promised herself not to be. This whole scene captured me. I find it so interesting how you have described the parallels between her and her mother. Generational history repeating itself. It happens a lot in families. And I just love how you added it into this story š.
Even though we see the following scenes in the movie, it didn't stop me from being on the edge of my seat. You can never trust a fanfic writer and how they might twist the story šš!
A black haired soldier was there wrapped around a blanket, shaking and apparently in his own mind. My poor dark haired baby š©. I couldn't not mention him!
Farrier didn't know that, but in that moment to calm her anxiety and nerves, his wife was at the beach. Her feet were touching the sea, like if somehow she could connect with him. Her red hair was moving in the wind. Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL! I loved this part, Flor! The image of her standing with her feet in the water, and him on the opposite side on the beach...šā¤ļø! I love how through it all, through the evacuation of Dunkirk you connected them. As the reader, I can't help but smile at the idea of them being closer than they actually think they are.
Jack Collins nodded and said goodbye. He fell asleep in the train thinking what and how, he's going to tell Maggie the news. But what will Collins tell her š³?? He's missing, he's dead...? Does he even know himself?? Will he even make it out alive with the Germans right behind him? I have so many questions and so many possibilities running though my mind that I'm going straight to the next chapter!
Incredible chapter, hun ā¤ļø!
The sun always rises again (Farrier x fem!oc) Part II.
Masterlist - Part I
Summary: 1940 Dunkirk, France. Farrier, Collins and thousands of soldiers are fighting at the same time they're waiting for their evacuation. The Air Force is exactly where they need them to be. || In Sussex, his wife and kids are awaiting for him, although something tells Maggie that it wasn't going to be easy.
Warnings: Angst. Some old fashioned thoughts. Mentions of war and all related to it. Daisy Preston belongs to @emotionalcadaver. || Same as I did with Farrier, I also invented Collins' name.
Words: 3k.
1938-1940
"I bought you something," Maggie said giving him a small box that contained a new watch.
"Love, you didn't have to. It's really nice."
"I wanted you to have something that reminds you of me. It has our initials engraved on the back.
"And our wedding date," he added reading it.
Maggie nodded. She had been avoiding to show her sorrow, but every minute it has become difficult to achieve.
They needed him, of course they needed him. An elite pilot as he was, it was always necessary. The air force was an essential part of this new, but not unexpected, war. Although probably, no one knew the magnitude of it nor the damage that it was about to cause.
"Jack is already there?" she asked refering to Collins. His best friend and also their son's godfather.
"He is. And the rest of them as well. But they're going to separate us. Although, at least, Collins and I we're going to be in the same group."
"Together as always," Maggie said trying to smile. But a single tear betrayed her.
William knew she was trying to show him that she was going to be fine, that she was strong so he could leave without worrying, but he knew better. Of course his wife was strong and was perfectly capable of taking care of the house, the kids and herself. But that didn't mean she was okay with it. Farrier put the watch in his pocket and hugged her. He felt her hands clutching his jacket and how she started to sob against his chest.
"I promise to be back, sweetheart. To you and to the kids."
"I'm scared," Maggie finally confessed.
"I know, love. But, I'll be back and when I do, I think we can make another mini-us," he said, putting his hand on her belly and smiling at her. "Or two. We did it well before."
"Maybe we can," she admitted, feeling his arms embracing her tightly.
"I know I don't say it so frequently as I should, but I love you, Maggie. I really love you."
"I know you do, Will. I don't need you to tell me it all the time, I can see it. You're the most perfect husband I could ask for. I wish I could do something about this and prevent you to go to hell."
"You can't. But I'll survive."
Alone in the kitchen, William kissed his wife. It was a soft, slow kiss. Like trying to keep this memory of them together for the last time forever in his mind. Her hand was caressing his cheek and he had the other against his chest. Her tears fell down her cheeks and he could taste them in his own mouth but he didn't mind. When they pulled apart, he wiped them away with his thumb.
"You don't know how lucky I am," William said looking at her. "I love you, Maggie."
"I love you too, Will."
A car outside was already waiting for him, but he took his time to kiss her again.
Their kids were in the living room. Clara ran into his father arms and hid her little face in his neck "don't go, papa."
"I have to, Clarie, but I'm going to return, yes? Be a good girl. Can you promise me that? Help your mother, okay darling?"
The little girl nodded. Then, William turned to look at his son "you too, Ed. You're the man of the house, now. Don't make your mother angry and helped her. She needs you. Will you behave and help her?"
"Yes, sir!" The kid responded, saluting him.
His father nodded "You're a good little man, Edward."
William kissed Maggie once last time. He touched reddish hair with his fingers. He always loved her hair. In the mornings, when the sunlight entered through the bedroom's window it seemed to shine. And the freckles on her shoulders accentuated that.
Farrier was going to miss his family. He knew that. The last image he saw of them was the children hugging their mother and Maggie looking at him go, without knowing if he was going to return.
Contrary to regular soldiers forced to be on the battlefield for long periods, his position required him to go back to safe place because planes required maintenance and fuel.
After six months there, Farrier asked permission to return home for two weeks as it's was allowed to do but they refused his request. They needed him.
"They needed me, too!" He wasn't a man who easily lost his temper, but sometimes his superiors tested his patience.
Collins and Farrier had a free day. Farrier could call his wife and heard her calmed him a bit. Things back in home were fine. Edward lost one of his deciduous teeth and was happy when he saw that the fairy teeth left him money under his pillow. Although, Maggie said, he was determinated to give his money to the soldiers. Until one of them, gently, told the boy that any soldier could be happy if he kept the coin for himself or bought something nice for his mother.
"He bought me a cake," Maggie said and Farrier knew she was smiling. "Clara, him and me ate it drinking tea that same afternoon."
"He's a good boy. Kind as you are, my love."
"Ed is a little gentleman as his father is," she said "it's really sad that you can't come, Will."
"I'm furious. They promised me time with my family, like the rest of them! It'sā¦ it's frustrating. Maybe I can do it for Christmas."
"That would be beautiful. I'm planning to buy a new tree and Clara wants to decorate it with ribbons. Do you remember that doll she saw in town? I bought it already."
William couldn't help but smile imagining the house decorated for holidays. When he was there, the four of them helped to decorate it. The smell of the delicious food, his kids playing in front of the fireplaceā¦ he missed them. Marguerite was the best wife and mother he knew. It wasn't egocentrism, but he knew she really missed him. Farrier knew her very well and knew how difficult it was for her and yet, there she was proving herself that she was stronger than she believed.
"You have to go, I know," she said later "I love you."
"I love you too. I'll call as soon as I can."
"I'll be waiting. Kids send you their love, too. Take care, okay, Will?"
"Promise."
.
"If it's helps," Collins said to him later when they were walking into a bar where other soldiers were and looking how annoyed he was, "They don't allowed me to go home either. How's the family?"
"Kids are waiting for Christmas already and Maggie is trying her best to keep them entertained."
"I need to send them something, I think. What kind of cool uncle I am, if not?"
"Edward presumes the planes you sent him to anyone who has time to listen to him," Farrier commented refering to a collection of wooden planes that Collins sent to him a year ago for his birthday. "You already are the coolest uncle."
"I know, of course I am," the blond man smirked, but then added more seriously "your kids are good and so is Maggie. This has to end sooner than later and you'll be able to get back to them."
Farrier sip the beer in front of him and looked at his best friend "if something happens to me, promise me you're going to take care of them."
"Wiliamā¦"
"No, don't try to tell me that everything will be alright because we both know how things work. How many of our soldiers already died? Pilots, too! We're not the exception, Jack! So if I die, I want to do it knowing that my kids and Maggie will be okay. They trust you."
"They're waiting for you, not me. So don't think those stupid things because I know very well that you could sell your soul to the devil if that means to go back to them, Farrier!"
"The devil nowadays live in Germany, Collins, and don't think he wants my soul."
Jack Collins nodded "if something happens to you, I'll take care of your family, William."
"Thanks."
.
But William couldn't go to his house that Christmas, although he sent cards, chocolate and money to them. And the morning of the 25th, he had the chance to talk to his children.
Both Edward and Clara were already sleeping, but Maggie wasn't. The woman was in the dining room with a cup of tea in her hands and a plate of cookies next to her, that she and the kids baked that morning. Through the window, she could hear the ocean, too dark to see it, but the sound of the waves was clear. Some lights in the distance indicated that fishermen were in their boats waiting to catch the best fish.
Maggie wonder how many times her own mother sat exactly where she was waiting for her husband while Maggie and her brother were sleeping same as her kids right now. She promised herself more than once not to follow her mother's steps. Mrs. Lewis didn't abandon them, but her mind always seemed to be somewhere else and not in the present. Like it was always 1914 and the man she loved was going to return.
Maggie dreamt about having a family like the one she now had, but William wasn't in her plans. Probably she hoped to marry a carpenter, a teacher or a fisherman even, but she didn't want nothing to do with men involved in the military field. She didn't want to be her mother. And yet, when William appeared everything she promised herself evaporated the moment her eyes found his. And there she was, like the woman she promised herself not to be.
She didn't know what her father promised her mother, if he even promised something, but she did believe William's word. He promised to return and something made her believe his words.
The Farriers saw the landscape of Sussex changed with every season that passed. Christmas arrived again and the man of the house was still absent.
By 1940, Edward was already seven years and Clara five. Maggie found a new job as the secretary of a doctor near the school were the kids studied. With almost no men in whole Great Britain, pubs were almost empty all the time and incomings weren't the best. This new job also gave her the opportunity to spend more time in her house and didn't take time from his old neighbor who looked after her kids when she wasn't around.
"We're going to France. Dunkirk."
That was the last time she spoke to him. A rescue mission organised by Churchill himself.
May of 1940 was ending and the news weren't good at all. Operation Dynamo, it was called. The objective was to rescue at least 29,000 soldiers from France and bring them back to England. The Royal Air Force, where William and Collins served, was required. It was the only way to stop the bombings of the enemies.
"You can do this, Will," she said. "I love you."
.
"You can do this, Will. I love you."
William saw the panel in front of him and checked the fuel. Still had enough gallons to do that.
The vast and infinite sea was behind him. Under any other circumstances he'd take some minutes to enjoy the view but he couldn't.
Farrier only wanted to leave that place as soon as possible and doing it alive. Now yes, his superiors authorized him to return home. Finally, after a year and a half. All he wanted in this world was that. His kids and Maggie hugging him, his house and the smell of the food prepared by her. He loved her meals. He loved her.
"Fortis 2," he called.
Collins replied immediately. "Here, Fortis 2."
"What's your fuel, Fortis 2?"
"70 gallons, Fortis 1."
Farrier took notes.
At the beach, hospital ships were carrying the injured soldiers. A lot of them in critical conditions, so bad that probably lot of them were going to die before reaching England. Thousand of soldiers strong enough to be on their feet were waiting their turn to be evacuated.
And above their heads, the enemies. It didn't matter if the hospital ships should be untouchable, in theory. They dropped bombs against them, too, killing the poor soldiers, nurses and doctors.
"Where's the bloody air force?!"
Dodging the enemies and down them, was easier to say that to do. The Spitfires were amazing planes piloted by elite pilots but so were the others.
"I have no eyes on Fortis Leader," William said. He had shot one of the enemies and it collapsed in front of him. "Fortis, 2, answer."
Collins dodged another plane before responding "Understood, Fortis 1. Orbit for a look."
Over the sea, help was coming but not quickly enough. Not when you're floating in middle of the ocean with seawater entering your lungs. When despair is filling your mind.
When your best friend is floating next to you already dead.
.
Maggie was nervous that day. The skies above her were clean and only birds were flying there.
No planes. Not Spitfires. Not him.
She knew something was wrong and couldn't explain why, but she feel it in her heart.
Her kids were fighting that day. It wasn't uncommon they were just kids, and siblings, but in her current state she couldn't tolerate it and yelled at them. Both kids stayed quiet immediately and apologized. She regretted in the moment, too.m, she wasn't like that. Every time she corrected them, she did it firmly but calm, not like that.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry!" she said kissing their heads
"It's okay, mom. We're going to behave. We promise dad that," Edward said and his sister nodded.
"Thanks, Ed. Today I'm not feeling well, that's all. But it's anyone fault. Justā¦just a bad day."
.
"He's on me, Fortis 1!" announced Collins to Farrier.
"And I am on him!"
William managed to destroyed that plane. But Collins didn't have time to celebrate because another one, shot him.
Farrier wanted to swear. He wasn't that kind of man, but that was a good moment to say fuck. Not Collins. Not his best friend. He saw smoke in one of the wings.
William allowed himself to look down. Some ships were around them. Collins was prepared enough to water landing, if he succeeded, then he could be safe. And then, only him will remain in the air.
"Forty gallons," said his friend and Farrier nodded.
"Just do it," Farrier commanded. "Jack, remember your promise."
Jack stayed quiet as he began to descend on the sea "I do remember. Good luck, Farrier."
"Good luck, Collins."
.
He was rescued. Luckily alive. A man, his son and a pretty lady helped him to get in the boat. A black haired soldier was there wrapped around a blanket, shaking and apparently in his own mind.
Collins raised his eyes to the sky. Only one plane against the rest. The odds weren't favourable, but it was also true that his friend was a hell of pilot. If anyone could do it was him.
"Come on, Farrier." He said for first, but not last time.
.
The fuel tank was almost empty but he felt in his heart that he could do that.
His mind was focus on his target and every enemy plane that fell, meant that he was nearing home.
Maggie. He needed to do that for her. If he wanted to return home, he needed to succeed.
There wasn't more fuel on the tank and the the plane was using the propulsion system to stay in the air. New bombs from the enemies but those were the last ones before Farrier destroyed in hundreds of pieces the last enemy. Where he was, he didn't hear the cheers. The happiness of them, meant the victory that Churchill wanted.
He flew over his heads. He could see the boats and ships rescue them and felt peace. Although he didn't know what was going to happen to him. Sun was starting to hide as he began to land his faithful plane. And yet, Fortis 1 needed to die.
He was alone in the beach, or so he believed, when finally the wheels touched the sand. He took his gun from his vest and shot at it. Fortis 1 combusted almost immediately and he remained in silence watching the fire that contrasted with the sunset in that moment. Then, he heard voices and a gun on his back. Germans.
Farrier didn't know that, but in that moment to calm her anxiety and nerves, his wife was at the beach. Her feet were touching the sea, like if somehow she could connect with him. Her red hair was moving in the wind.
She was crying and he wasn't there to comfort her. She didn't want to think the worst, but why her heart ached that bad? Maggie sat down on the sand and hugged her knees, she hid her face against them and cried.
Her mother was right. All those years, she was right. The pain of waiting couldn't be described.
.
"Going home?" The sweet girl named Daisy asked Collins when they were finally at the pier and the train was ready to take the soldiers home. Some of them were rude towards him, but he ignored them.
"Sussex," he replied.
"You live there?"
"No. My best friend live thereā¦ the other pilot. William Farrier is his name, his wife and kidsā¦ I need to tell them that him-"
Collins couldn't finish the sentence. Daisy put a hand in his arm.
"Maybe he's alive and wellā¦ hope is something invaluable these times. Have hope, Collins."
Jack Collins nodded and said goodbye. He fell asleep in the train thinking what and how, he's going to tell Maggie the news.

š„ŗšLooking to write a historical smut RP scene.

Shy š¼ again. Something I realized while trying to write Primis Ed. People donāt think about first responder PTSD and the shit they go through. Iām pretty sure Edward has moments where he remembers all the people he couldnāt save. WW1 soldiers. People from before the war. Itās my personal HC is that Maxis comforted him the first time he lost a patient. Edwardās learned to cope with time, but the emotions flare up every so often.
Hello my shy panda!!š
I would imagine youāre exactly right. Thereās not a whole lot of information available on what Primis Edwardās life was like between when he lost his family and when he was conscripted into Group 935, but I would imagine any and every loss he suffered as a doctor would hit him extremely hard. His desire to help and save people is something he takes very seriously, and any failure to do so he reflects as a failure upon himself.
I love the idea of Maxis comforting him the first time he lost a patient- we know that Primis Edward viewed Maxis as a father figure, and it only makes sense that he would be the one to provide that comfort as a parent would their child.
I Imagine the stressors surrounding him would make those flare ups worse. The memories of being unable to save a patient combining with the fear of not being able to save his allies and himself. I would imagine thatās a large part of the reason he doesnāt sleep- not only because of the circumstances he finds himself in, but because he doesnāt want to allow those thoughts to combine and bring him nightmares.
IM GONNA STOP BEFORE I MAKE MYSELF SADš

I'VE BEEN CAUGHT IN THE ACT-
Star this is going to be so long. Star this is going to be a Thesis I am so sorry
Hearing you yell about Six makes me so happy š you see the worms that are inside my brain and are multiplying them tenfold. We will appreciate him So Much. I'm gonna sniffle more about him a little further down but just <333 aughe <3. Even when he's in an episode that isn't great, he elevates it so much by just,, being him, yknow? His personality so bright and bold and mercurial that you can't help but have a good time while he's on screen. He can frown disapprovingly at me anytime. OKAY ON TO EPISODES- [Iāll preface this with āthe last time I watched through a full season of Classic Who was at least 4 shoe sizes agoā, so have mercy on me if I forget a good one]
STARTING NOTES :Ā
The Three Doctorās. Exactly what it says on the tin, one of the specials. Either you can watch this after checking out bits of Doctors 1-3, OR give it a peek-through early to get to know 'em a little bit!
The first two Doctors arenāt for everyone - the stories are usually pretty long (sometimes 2-3+ hrs) and can have a ton of filler, I know I wasn't super into 'em when I started - so if you find that they arenāt really jiving w/ you, but you still wanna get a feel of their personalities, this is a great one! (And on the other hand, if find that you love āem, itās great to see them all together! The interactions between 2 and 3 are amazing in these eps.)
Iāll mention The Five Doctorās here for much the same reason. Seeing 1 and 5 argue with each other is VERY fun, 3 is always a good time, overall a lot of really silly moments!
ALRIGHT outside of that :Ā
First Doctor :Ā
Crotchety old man, loves his grand-daughter, Susan. Very scientific and analytical, gets a touch softer as the series goes on.
It's also just really fun to see where it all started? Whenever one of the later Doctors go all snippy and stern, you can almost feel the wisps First Doctor comin' out <3 and that makes my eyes go all wet and blinky. ANYWAYS, IN TERMS OF GOOD EPS I REMEMBER :
The War Machines! Lots of good moments btwn him and his companion at the time, Dodo, and I love evil machines.
And if you find yourself enjoying that, Iāll suggest The Time Meddler - getting to see The Doctor interact w/ another time-traveler is very fun!
Second Doctor :Ā
Much more silly! Heās got a childish sort of aura to him, but heās wonderfully clever. Heās also got a recorder, so thatās a huge bonus. Itās unfortunate that so much of his run was lost!
EPS :
The Invasion - wonderful, although two episodes are missing, I believe they've been re-animated? Don't quote me on that. It's just a real good storyline, and we get some Cybermen in there!
The War Games is a great one w/ him, but itās also about 4 hours long, so Iāll leave this more as an honourable mention - itās the first time we ever see Gallifrey, itās 2ās regeneration episode, some WW1 commentary, lots of good stuff here!
Third Doctor :Ā
Quite suave, very much a dandy, although he wouldnāt take kindly to you calling him that. He has this simultaneous elegance and silliness that makes him so fun. Pertwee ily.
He gets a car, her name is Bessie :) thatās important and I think u should know it.
I also remember him kicking ass a bit more than the other doctors? He sword-fights The Master, I don't know what else to say MANSDMASN. EPS :
Honestly his first ep (season 7, ep 1) is a great time. Delirious from regeneration, we first see him face-planting into the grass. He rambles about shoes. Heās still settling into himself, itās very fun to see.
Terror of the Autons is another honourable mention - The first time we meet The Master!Ā
Fourth Doctor :Ā
Ehehe <3,, ehe,,,, eheheheeeeeeee :) <- I like him a normal amount. you cannot prove otherwise. pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
I will bat away my evil and wicked and loving thoughts long enough to tell you why heās my silly goose :)
Heās got this wild-eyed eccentricity that I adore <3Ā he is staring at everything and everyone with the UTMOST intensity.
I love his habit of smiling in the worst situations? Someone will have a gun pointed directly at him and heāll still be as giddy as ever. He has so much love for the adventure of it all. Okie if I keep going I fear I'll never shut up about him, SO :
The Ark In Space! If you REALLY want to get a feeling for his overall vibe + the way he interacts w/ his companions, this is a great one!
Another Doctor where his intro episode (season 12, ep 1) really is just a great time. He jump-ropes ominously and then shoves a man in a closet, and thatās only the beginning!
The Android Invasion gets a mention here - I love body-snatcher-style stories, lots of fun moments, even if I donāt think it's one most people would consider The Best Of The 4th Doctor.
Fifth Doctor :Ā
Celery Man :) At the time he was the youngest Doctor, and you see a lot of that in his personality? I remember him having a lot more hope than some of the previous incarnations. He gets described as naive a lot, both in and out of universe, which I find very endearing.
Earthshock! Kind of a standard recommendation for 5, but itās definitely for a reason - plus, who doesnāt love a classic Cyberman story?
The trilogy of Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, and Enlightenment is also really good. Turloughās great companion and his whole Deal during this arc is super interesting. If you find yourself liking 5, those are all great!
Sixth Doctor :Ā
Oh,,, you know,,, <3333
>:)
KJSDKSAJF ok I donāt need to tell you what a delight 6 is, we know this, we see this, we love this, we want this, we yearn- Iām getting distracted, but this does give me an excuse to ramble about him and all his wonderful little traits, so Iāll take it!
He has so many good moments in Attack of The Cybermen. Him taking the apple outta Periās hand? The nose-boop? His expression when the TARDIS tries to disguise herself? He is, in his own words, a man of āscience, temperament and passionā - and I love him to bits!
Even when heās being an arrogant little jackass, you can tell he cares! Heās worried for whoever might be sending the distress signal! bah <3
Like I said before - Colin Baker was having such a good time as Six, and that just adds so much fun into the character.
Anyways I am rambling about nothing in particular but. Nod nod. Star I see you I am waving at you from across the street. Six we love you sweetie <3
Seventh Doctor :Ā
I will admit - as much as I love Sylvester McCoy, 7 is definitely The Doctor Iām the least familiar with!
The only episode I distinctly remember was Greatest Show in The Galaxy, purely from the. brightness of it all MNADSMSAN.
I am so sorry Mr. McCoy
AOUGHE THAT GOT SO LONG IāM SORRY AMDSNASMDN - I know how overwhelming it is getting into Classic Who, so I hope some of these suggestions help you on the journey
OUTIS send help, Doctor Who is the gift that keeps on giving ššš i thought the Toymaker would be the end of it but folks in my Toymaker server made a few jokes about Six. and i had -no idea- about what kind of character Six is. holy FUCK i am in LOVE with this pompous, arrogant asshole ššššš he's so cute!!!!! so abrasive!!!! so......PASSIONATE!!!!!! i didn't know he was such a freak!!!! yes yes yes please do rewatch his era because i'm doing it for the first time and having a blast šš
yes,,,, YYYYEEESSSSS. This is perhaps the best development that could have happened. I need you to know how quickly I scrambled downstairs like some sort of Ghoul to try and find the old boxsets and AUGHE!!!!
I FORGOT WHAT AN ABSOLUTE CHARACTER HE IS!!!
He's got such an incredible amount of drama and charisma and wild-eyed charm inside of him, I can't believe how this man has slipped to the back of my mind for so long. Even outside of his borderline regeneration-induced-mania during his first storyline, he's just. such a delight. Colin Baker is having the time of his life delivering every line, and you can TELL
Look at him - what's not to love?
Also, this isn't directly related to our dear multicoloured man, but - thank you for giving me an excuse to Stare Affectionately at Classic Who! There are so many of those delightful quirks and silly set-pieces you can only really find in early 70s-80s sci-fi, sprinkled all throughout, I just,,, ah <3333 it has been so long
OKIE IM RAMBLING BUT >:) EHEHE I cannot wait to see you slip further and further into Doctor Who Fevers. Come yell with/at me anytime, I love seeing ppl experience Classic Who and all the wonderfully wild things it has to offer
#shaking shivering like a chihuahua. I may be at risk of making a self insert of some sort.... Star I'm in DANGER what have you DONE#STAR YOU'VE GOT ME WATCHING 4 AND 6 AND MY HEART IS GOING TO COMBUST IM WEAK ITS TOO MUCH IM GONNA FOLD INWARDS LIKE A LAWNCHAIR.#*pulling up another 6th doctor episode of his own free will* 'why would star make me do this?'#MANFDAMSNDAMSND#doctor who#BWAH I didn't even bring up NuWho - I feel like my favourites there are probably 9-10? I dropped off around Clara which is unfortunate#bc I already have Big Stupid GooGoo Eyes for Peter Capaldi#So if I ever do a re-watch he will most likely slot-in as a favourite. hi old man I'm gonna break your hip 12 <- I need to be put in a box#ANYWAYS ANYWAYS SORRY THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE THESIS AND IM STILL YAMMERING#I had to go and research episode names cause I could remember Good Moments but. Not The Names Of The Episodes Where Those Moments Happen#AND THE TITLES DON'T HELP ITS ALWAYS GENERIC SCI-FI NAME NUMBER 7#if I see the word Invasion again I'll start BITING AKSDJASKDJ#tldr. star you are the most of all time. thank you for reminding me how much I need to gnaw on these grainy old men

KAKASHI KAKASHI KAKASHI
Omg yesĀ thank you so much @jazzi-fizz I had a feeling that if anyone would ask itād be him first but ok ok ok I'm so sorry in advance if I ramble but you ask about this man it's kinda is what it is
Kakashi Hatake
favorite thing about them
Oooh one thing? This is really hard. What attracted me most to him as a character is his humility and his strength in his stoicism, his quiet will to endure if that makes sense? Manās been through hell of a lot but he just carries on for the sake of those around him and has more mental fortitude than heās given credit for and he's wise for his age but he can also be chill and sometimes dorky and I like his well-roundedness, I guess. He is a good person even if he comes off differently, and he canāt see how good he is, and that makes me love him š I like how his low-key nature is belied by something deeper.Ā He has like, the kind of masculine traits that are more low-key and overlooked but I find super attractive.
least favorite thing about them
He has a tendency to... passivity, I guess? I guess itās the lackadaisical part of his personality, the part of him thatās just happy to... just die and fade away into nothing and just see himself as how useful he can be to those around him? He doesnāt live for himself too much in any meaningful way, and itās always kinda sad to watch.Ā Like, on one level his self-sacrificial nature can be admirable and on another it's sad.
favorite line
He has so many good ones omg.Ā I love the lessons he instils into the kids when they're little? He says something to Sakura after the Rock Lee/Gaara fight that;s like, there are times when condolences are crueler or something like that. Like, deep, bro. I know he was quoting someone else but i also loved the line he gave where he said 'to know what is right and to ignore it is the act of a coward'. That one's probably my favourite.
BUT, I wanna mention, one that's popping into my head right now is the one at the end of the Land of Waves arc, Naruto looks away from Zabuza's body and Kakashi says something like 'when you live your life as a warrior, this is how it ends.' Idk, it had an impact on me even as a kid, it just brought a lot of gravity to the situation and Idk, the kind of respect he'd had from someone he'd been fighting to kill for the whole arc and it's just one that got me thinking about men and soldiers and war. Like, I used to be obsessed with WW1 literature and it kinda harkened back to that, I guess.
brOTP
Kakashi and Gai, obviously. I really loved their dynamic and friendship for so long before coming to tumblr tbh, where I kinda fell out of love with it (I just felt that both these characters are so much more than the other character but they just got reduced to that), but Iām appreciating it again.Ā
OTP
This is a cliche answer but none. I really donāt have any for him. He just doesnāt have any characters that I see him having romantic chemistry with - I donāt approach ships like most people, so Iām not super excitable or imaginative about ships to begin with, like, there are some I like and dislike, but I really donāt get invested in the idea of them unless theyāre a huge part of the show itself, and thatās never been really why I enjoyed Naruto and Kakashi just doesn't have that with any characters for me. So, because i don't really have an answer, I'll tell you who I can see him being compatible with - he actually would work really well with Shizune, they'd balance and complete each other in a lot of ways, and he'd be good with Mei Terumi too, because you know, sexy man, sexy woman, power couple, both Kages, she has this understated badass feminine energy and Kakashi has this lowkey subtle badass masculine energy so I like that. His personality complements Iruka quite well too, he'd be compatible with him I think. The kind of bond he has with Obito is easier to reimagine romantically than it is with some of his other ships too.
NOTP
I really donāt like any of his ships šĀ the student ships are particularly indigestible to me, and specifically during my teens I reallyĀ hated Kakash x Sakura (itās still probably my least favourite one, but no offense to any followers of mine who ship it), but like... I love Kakashi and Gai as a brotp, but I really donāt get KakaGai in a non-platonic sense, I really donāt (I'm sorry, I feel like thatās sacrilege on this website, and tbh that;s probably whatās emboldened my... confusion? of it).
random headcanon
Everyone says Kakashi is a dog person, and he is, but he is an animal person! He really likes being in nature and around animals in general, more than people. He would never turn his nose up at a cat and he'll watch some birds out of his window when he's half-asleep in the morning. I dont see him as a huge plant person but he's also got a hell of a green thumb, he probably just has one plant that he loves, but i like to think he has an appreciation and deep understanding of nature.
unpopular opinion
Lol I am the queen of unpopular opinions and I have a lot when it comes to Kakashi. Firstly, heās not nearly as weak or as passive as a lot of the fandom would have you believe. Idk maybe fans want to make him more relatable and project onto him but they make fanon Kakashi a lot less functional and competent than he is in canon? Heās not defined by his depression or ptsd either. I think people on here feminise him far too much too (just something Iāve noticed, particularly with shippers. To me itās a clear case of fan projection. Which is valid, but not what I get out of a show. Also, kinda unrelated but tumblr has this thing where they make established badass male characters into āuwu soft boysā and Iām kinda allergic to it lmao)
Also,Ā this is probably only unpopular on tumblr, but I'ma say it, Iāve always just had typical straight guy vibes from this man? Obviously people can see him how they want and I donāt really want to contest with anyoneās headcanons, but iām someone that just goes by the source material, so when I see the idea of Kakashi with a woman being met with a lot of hostility and derision, it... confuses me a little.Ā
song i associate with them
Oh, lots, but at the moment itās a tie between What a catch, Donnie by Fall out Boy and Please, Please Let Me Get What I want by The Smiths
favorite picture of them
It's so hard to pick one oh my god. There are so many good fanarts that depict him well, this is one of my favourite ones though. They depict his vibe and Kishimoto's art style so well.
In terms of from the series, again, so much, but i'm a sucker for the first time we see Kakashi's hair wet and I'm also a sucker for Kishimoto's manga art.
Sorry I went on for so long! It's lowkey dangerous asking me about Kakashi lmao I saw this just before I went to bed and I couldn't stop myself.
Anyway, I'm still happy to do these for other characters!
Send me a character here and I'll fill this out!
#kakashi#kakashi hatake#kakashi x reader#hatake kakashi#ask game#naruto#pftalks#answered#like iām not hating on people who say kakashi āradiates bi energyā because I would genuinely like to know because I donāt see it#I think itās mostly about ships and representations and relatability - which I totally get#like to me naruto is a character that has bi energy... but itās not something I think about much I just go with whatever the show portrays#pfthinks

Hi! I'l french, I don't really have many things tl add because you said quite a lot and also a lot of things were ruined by school (like madame bovary, I have no idea if it's good or not, I just know I hated it and couldn't understand why it was that iconic, I guess there is a reason lol), but I got excited seeing you talking about it so I will just comment for a bit haha
I love maupassant! It was something about his writing that even when I didn't care about the story I still had a good moment reading it (I don't know how it translates into english or other languages though, which is true for any writing)
Zola I only read (besides J'accuse; side note but if someonewant understand a bit more some stuff about france history they should for sure look into l'affaire dreyfus and the following events :) ) Germinal, which was so long and I didn't finish it but it's one of those book I would like to read again now.
Also yes for jules verne ! And I really need to read the compte of montecristo
I'm really curious about how poems are translated and understood. When we're kids we often study 'Il pleure dans mon cÅur' (Paul Verlaine) which literally means it's raining in my heart, but you loose the rhyme. Fun fact I remember when the teacher told us that verlaine and rimbaud had a relationship (paul verlaine was much older...) that ended badly and we started to read all their poems as if they were about that that the teacher had to put a stop because not everything is about that š
For the 20th century, there is a bunch of things that maybe aren't for everyone (quite peculiar?) but are worth to know, like ionesco in theater. There is also boris vian (20th century), I don't know if he's translated but there is L'arrache-coeur, L'herbe rouge or L'Ć©cume des jours (the last 2 are maybe more accessible?).
There is a lot more but I really don't know enough about literature š
Also for anyone interested... There is a very controversial author. Rightfully: he was a collabo during ww2 and he has books about escaping after the end lf the war etc it's... yeah. Don't read these books. But there is one that he wrote before that is really well known. It's really weird to read because of who he was but also because it's hard to understand how he became that after writing this. And he was a really good writer (more than a good person :/). It's like semi autobiographic (not really) and talks about the soldier experience in the ww1 and then the society in the post war in the 20, the colionalism, the industrial society... Really interesting but it's a lot.
hello anon! first of all thanks for the contribution ;) and going in order
haha dw I GET YOU ON THINGS BEING RUINED BY SCHOOL I have that problem with a few as well T_T maupassant translates decently enough in italian tho idk for english but I can confirm that dkslg and yes I should have specified to read j'accuse which is pretty damned great so thanks for mentioning it!
how poems are translated and understood.
eh like... the thing is that I know enough french to like, if I read the translation and then read the original I can get the meaning/I can get by with it so I'm not too bothered if they don't keep the rhymes/translate trying to keep the meaning but there's a reason why I'm in 100% awe of people who can translate poetry I could never /o\ from what I recall with verlaine/rimbaud/baudelaire most people do that while trying to maintain a musical rhythm and all the ones I saw where they tried to save the rhyming were... not 100% of the time good but yeah I feel that
For the 20th century, there is a bunch of things that maybe aren't for everyone (quite peculiar?) but are worth to know, like ionesco in theater. There is also boris vian (20th century), I don't know if he's translated but there is L'arrache-coeur, L'herbe rouge or L'Ć©cume des jours (the last 2 are maybe more accessible?).
AAAH thanks for mentioning ionesco I KNEW I was forgetting someone but I do quite like his theater! and fdklgjdlkjsdlkj FUCK I forgot boris vian wrote books too - I mean in italian there are some translated but let's say one of the parents is very much into vian so they have all of his stuff in french (I'm partial to the songs admittedly, I haven't tried the novels yet but le deserteur in my heart xD), I have absolutely no idea if he's translated into english though but thanks for mentioning him!
uuuuh is perchance the last you mentioned celine's journey to the end of the night? because hahahahah I never read it exactly because of what you said but at some point I think I should give at least that one a go out of like IT'S IMPORTANT I SHOULD READ IT but yeah the man's background doesn't really push you to try his stuff out :/

I will happily continue!! (sorry for slow response. I got distracted by Lucifer lol)
Do you mind spoilers? Cause if I say more I'm probably gonna get spoilery. Okay this is definitely spoiler filled so if you wanna avoid spoilers just uhh don't read this lol
Also side note, I just saw that Downton Abbey was just added to Netflix and I am SCREAMING!!!! I've wanted to do a rewatch and now it's on Netflix! Yay!
Okay so Thomas! Let me tell you some of my favorite moments and things about Thomas Barrow (and yes most are whumpy lol).
Spoilers below! And under a readmore cause damn I can talk lol
One of the most heartbreaking things about Thomas is that he is always trying to find love but it always fails spectacularly and hurts him which makes him even harder and meaner. Thomas tries so many times throughout the show to find love and they all end so so badly and it breaks my heart. First you've got the Duke of Crowborough who breaks his heart when he betrays him and throws away his stack of letters like they meant nothing (and yeah Thomas was gonna use them as blackmail but he just wants freedom and love dammit!). Then he hits on Kamal Pamuk but was wrong about him and the fear in his eyes when Pamuk threatens and blackmails Thomas into doing something for him is SO SAD!! HE'S SO SCARED. Then he goes to war (ww1) and there's a guy at the hospital he's working in that he starts to like but the guy is depressed and kills himself and Thomas ends up sobbing and then i cried too. Then we have Jimmy Kent. Oh Jimmy Kent. Thomas is led to believe that Jimmy returns his feelings so Thomas, being the stupid romantic he is, sneaks into Jimmys room at night and kisses him awake thinking he'll be happy and kiss him back and it goes TERRIBLY WRONG!! VERY WRONG!! Jimmy is furious and disgusted and Carson (the butler) finds out and he calls him all sorts of horrible things (says he should be horsewhipped and that he's foul) and fires him without a reference but Bates helps him and saves his job. But the emotional angst Thomas goes through during this time is SO GOOD! The tears and fear and there's a scene where he's sobbing in the yard in the rain and IT'S SO GOOD!!! I love it! He eventually finds someone during the Downton Abbey movie who loves him and whom he loves and they kiss and he's happy and it's so good. But for the whole show it's just angst and sadness
Oh my god okay so another thing about Thomas is that he's so damn lonely!! The world hates him because he's gay. He's afraid all the time of being found out and going to prison so he thinks his best way of keeping himself safe is to collect other people's secrets so if they find out his, he'll have theirs to use as blackmail into keeping silent. But what Thomas doesn't understand is that if he makes friends with them and has people like him THEY WON'T RAT HIM OUT BECAUSE THEY'RE HIS FRIEND!! And he's got stupid Miss O'Brien egging him on and manipulating him and influencing his actions and making him do things he probably wouldn't have even thought of let alone done and I hate her so much!!
Ultimately Thomas wants love and friends and happiness and to be able to be his own man. He's in service because it's the perfect excuse to never marry. But he hates being in service because he doesn't want to answer to anyone, he wants to be his own boss. All of this makes him lash out at people.
And he doesn't realize it until it's too late but he has friends throughout the show!! Mrs. Hughes and Anna and Miss Baxter and Andy are all his friends and when he finally realizes it he's so much happier and I died š But it's a long journey and when he tries to make a friend everyone turns them off of Thomas before he can even have a chance. At one point he sits alone in the servants quarters CRYING because HE'S SO LONELY AND SAD!!!
And he's so good with kids and dogs and they're the best judges of character! He loves the Crawley's kids and the kids love him. They ask him for piggy back rides and he gives them happily. It's adorable. And even when he was stupid and kinda kidnapped Isis, Robert Crawleys dog, the dog still happily runs up to him and plays with him and there's a scene when Isis is sick and Thomas is the one to carry him and pet him and it's so soft I died!!
He also served two years at the front during World War One and if you know anything about how fucking bad the front is during that war you know that it's a miracle he survived and is still sane. He does get injured though. He purposely gets shot so he can go home and get out of the trenches and you can't blame him at all because it's absolute hell there. But it breaks my heart that no one gives a fuck about him while he's there!! No welcome home, no one worries for him (except maybe O'Brien) and I hate it.
God I just love him so much. I want to hug him, be his friend. He does and says some seriously mean shit but it's all to cover up the fact the he's afraid and lonely all the time.
ace ace ace babe!! I saw two (2) pictures of someone called Thomas Barrow on your blog and I want to know more.......
Ooooh!!!! Babe! You have come to the right place because Thomas Barrow is one of my FAVORITE CHARACTERS!!!! Not just in Downton Abbey but in all of media. I love him to bits.
So Thomas is a character in Downton Abbey, one off the downstairs staff. Thomas is the ambitious, vindictive, secretly soft-hearted, just wants to have love and security, gay footman who spends most of the series doing not so nice things to people and acts as a sort of villain for the rest of the downstairs staff. Thomas starts as a footman bit he really wants to move up in the world so he has security and freedom to be himself and it never goes as planned. Never.
BUT! He's not a bad guy! Thomas is gay during a time period when it was literally illegal to be so and it's made him hate the world and himself. He lashes out and makes people dislike him in an effort to protect himself. He's got a "hurt them before they hurt me" attitude. He's just a guy with a lot of pain and fear and it's made him bitter.
I love Thomas so much. He's got so much pain and hurt inside of him and it causes him to lash out stupidly and I get that. You just wanna give the boy a hug the more you learn about him. He's dark, handsome, a schemer, deep down he's super soft and kindhearted, he's great with kids, when he puts his scheming mind to good it's incredible, and just look at that smile. Makes my heart melt.
I'll talk about Thomas whenever you want to cause I love this boy. My #thomas barrow tag is loooong so feel free to explore. I mean look at this man. How can you not love him.
